The players know how to play football don’t they – they are among the best players in the country!
And everyone will think that what they are doing is a great idea, won’t they?
NO! it’s going to be a disaster, we all know that, we all know the value of a coach for a sporting team – but what about at work?
When we are new to a job we have a coach or mentor that trains us on how to do the work, for a trade business this is the senior tradesperson who teaches us how to do the work.
As we move through our career we have supervisors and managers that mentor and coach us… until we own our own business and then “we go it alone”.
Business owners with a team are the top 7% of all working people, you are the equivalent of an elite sports person, yet many don’t have a coach, why?

- Tried it before and it didn’t work – If North Melbourne sacked their coach and went it alone we know that is a bad idea, why would it be OK with our business? There are many bad coaches out there (in business and in sport), you need to sack that coach and find a new one.
- I don’t have time – this is probably the number one sign that you need a coach. When a football team is well coached they seem to win effortlessly, the same happens with people that are coached well in their business, they work less and make more money.
- I can’t afford it – Any good coach should be able to be self sustainable, their fee should covered through improved efficiency and/or sales (provided you do the work). Like any investment if you do the work you should see the return on investment – if you don’t then you should change your investment.
- I haven’t found the right coach for me – the only way to find the right coach for you is to go looking for one.
